Hepworth Class - Year 1 and Year 2
Welcome to Hepworth Class. Your child's teachers are Mrs Mason and Mrs Wilson.
Our PE days are Wednesday and Thursday.
Home learning goes on Google classroom on Thursday and is due in the following Wednesday. Spelling tests are on Thursday.
Book Bag reading books are changed on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Summer Term 2025
We will be exploring the following fantastic texts: Lost and Found, The Magic Bed, Rosie Revere EngineerThe Sea Saw. The children will be writing character and setting descriptions, letters, instructions, explanation texts and fantasy stories. In addition, the children will continue their phonics learning in groups, practising sounds, reading texts and using their sounds to spell. The children who have come off phonics will be focussing on comprehension.
In maths, Year 2 will be learning about fractions, time, statistics and position and direction. Year 1 will be learning about multiplication and division, fractions, position and direction, place value, money and time. The Year 1 children will be having Ms Laver teaching them maths.
In history, our topic is travel and transport. The children will learn about how transport has changed from past to present, an early form of transport, and how cars, trains and planes have changed over the years.
In geography, our topic is The Seaside. We will be using maps to locate seaside near to us, use geographical vocabulary to describe features of the seaside, and explore a seaside town.
In science, through exciting exploration, asking our own questions, making observations and doing lots of practical learning, we will be continuing our topic of Life Cycles. We will explore different animal lifecycles and then look at plant lifecycles.
In art, we are going to be focussing on nature sculptures. We will be starting with observational drawings and using clay to create a sculpture.
For DT, our topic is levers and sliders. The children will explore how levers and sliders move and then create an end product.
Our PE focus will be athletics and cricket. In athletics, we will be focussing on co-ordination, movement, balance, running, jumping and throwing. In cricket, we will be learning sending and hitting skills before playing a simple game.
In music, the children will be exploring sounds. They will be using percussion instruments and singing songs.
In computing, children will be creating media by using the keyboard and Word documents. They will also be learning about robot algorithms and using Scratch Junior to do this. The children will also be continuing with E-safety.
In PSHE, our focus is growing up and aiming high.
In RE, they will learn about philosophy and people's different ideas about God.
