Hepworth Class - Year 1 and Year 2

Welcome to Hepworth Class. Your child's teachers are Mrs Mason and Mrs Longshank.
Our PE days are Wednesday and Thursday.
Book Bag reading books are changed on Tuesdays.
Summer Term 2026
We will be exploring the following texts: Yeti and the Bird, Pig the Pug, Last Stop on Market Street and Lizzy and the Cloud. The children will be writing their own versions of stories, poetry, character descriptions, letters and a guide book. In addition, the children will continue their phonics learning in groups, practising sounds, reading texts and using their sounds to spell. The children who have come off phonics will be focussing on comprehension.
In maths, our focus for this term is fractions, time, position and direction, multiplication and division, money and statistics.
In geography, our topic is continents and oceans. We will be learning about the continents, discuss similarities and differences between continents and locate the Equator, North and South Poles. We will also learn and locate the oceans of the world.
In history, we will be learning about the history of significant explorers including Neil Armstrong and Felicity Aston.
In science, we will be learning about plants. We will be focussing on identifying the parts of a plant and learning about the plant lifecycle. We will also be growing our own plants.
In art and DT we will be learning about Miro and producing art in the style of Miro. We will also be making structures.
Our PE focus will be netball and rounders.
In music, the children will be using instruments. They will be working towards creating a performing a piece of music.
In computing, children will be creating media with digital music. They will also continue to use Scratch.
In PSHE, our focus is money matters and growing up.
In RE, the children will learn about how the universe came to be.
