Welcome to Kusama!

Class Teacher - Miss Marshall

Kusama is a team, a community of incredible and unique personalities who embrace challenges head-on. We always look for ways to practice and apply our skills and take on feedback daily to improve. We always use this growth mindset to try our best and we know that practice makes progress!

Summer Term

I cannot believe we are at the final term of the year - now is the time to tie all of our knowledge together and fill any gaps. The final term is chock-full of consolidation, new learning and new skills.

In English, our writing will be based on the beautiful picture-only book Flotsam by David Wisner. Here, the children will explore non-chronological reports and will finish the unit by writing their own sequels. They will then be writing poems and an extended fantasy narrative based on Our Tower by Joseph Coelho. In reading, children are retrieving, inferring, explaining and summarising the text Mr Penguin and the Lost Treasure.  Alongside this, we will continue to develop their independent VIPERS skills through non-fiction texts which relate directly to our science and history topics, to further their knowledge and by reading around the curriculum. Maths will focus on adding and subtracting fractions and measuring and comparing mass. They will go on to learn money, shape and time at the end of the term. The children will continue to use their ever-growing knowledge of times tables to help them deepen their understanding. In humanities, this term, we are learning about the history of the railways and their impact on British history and society. After this, they will compare and contrast the local human geography with that of a European town. In Science, the children will be exploring forces and magnets, learning about poles, attraction and how objects move. In DT, we will be evaluating and assessing product packaging in order to design their own snack boxes. In PE, we will continue visiting Blackwater Leisure Centre for swimming. At school, we will be working on our forehands, backhands and serves in tennis.

Please read the details below carefully so that you are aware of our school’s expectations.

Uniforms - At Priory, we pride ourselves on our appearance - being smart starts with looking smart! Children are required to wear full uniforms to school at all times. Please inform me or the school office if, for any reason, it is not possible to do this, and it will be taken into consideration. Please ensure all uniforms are labelled with the child’s name, as alternative uniforms cannot be provided should theirs go missing.

PE  PE kits must be brought to school on Monday so that they are ready for the week ahead. PE lessons will be taught every Monday and Thursday. The kit will be kept at school and sent home at the end of each half-term or at your request (but please ensure that they are returned to school on time for these sessions). On PE days, earrings must be removed before the children come into school. We are not allowed to help them remove earrings, and they will be unable to do PE.

Home Learning - On Friday, I will set a piece of home learning on Google Classroom, which should be completed and home learning books returned by Wednesday, please.

If you ever need to chat with me, please call or email the office, and I will return your call/email at the earliest possible time.
