Hepworth Class - Year 2
Spring Term 2024
Happy new year to you all! In year 2 our Spring term will be packed full of exciting learning. Here is an overview of what our curriculum includes ...
In RE, we are going to be looking at Human & Social Sciences. We will be exploring questions such as - 'How do Christians belong to their faith family?' and 'How does using the name Christian mean that people belong?' We will also be composing artwork to express how Christians belong to a faith family.
As part of our History curriculum, we will be learning about famous people who have helped shape our world today including David Attenborough, Christopher Columbus and Rosa Parks. To name but a few!
In Art lessons we will be looking at portraiture including the use of different materials and techniques when making their own. The children will also have the opportunity to explore the work of Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee, Henri Matisse and Andy Warhol, and create artwork inspired by them.
Science lessons will focus on different materials and their properties. We will be conducting exciting experiments to explore what different materials can do!
In Maths, we will be learning about the properties of 2D and 3D shapes, money, multiplication and division. We will also be learning through ‘Active Maths’ activities to enhance our learning.
In our English lessons we will be exploring the books - The Bear Under the stars by Helen Cooper and The Minpins by Roald Dahl. We will also be having our daily RWI phonics sessions which includes spellings linked to our newly learnt sound. These sessions will also incorporate broader writing, punctuation, sentence composition and comprehension for our more advanced readers.
In Music, we will be responding to music and how it makes us feel as well as learning to control dynamics. We will also be progressing to composing and notating pieces of music, using musical vocabulary and symbols.
In PE, we will be learning the skills to play attacking and defending games. We will also be continuing to build our fitness through circuit training activities.
We are really looking forward to this spring term with you 😊
