Summer Term 2024

We have a lot of exciting, new learning planned for the Summer term. Here is a peep inside our curriculum.

This first half term in English, we are going to be creating fairy tales. We will start by exploring traditional fairy tales from the Brothers Grimm and start to experiment with common characteristics from fairy tales to create our own.

In science, our focus is ‘Light’ in the first half term in which we will be looking a how we see light and how shadows are cast and can be changed. In the second half term we will be focusing on ‘Animals including Humans’ identifying and naming the main parts of the human circulatory system. We will also be describing the way nutrients and water are transported within animals including humans.

In Geography the theme will be 'The Americas'. In this unit about the Amazing Americas, children will first find out about the continents of North and South America, and the countries that form them. They will also look in more detail at some of the contrasting regions of the Americas, finding out about the landscape, climate and locations of each area. There is the opportunity to carry out a detailed fieldwork study of the children’s local area to help them to identify the similarities and differences between a region of the Americas and where they live. Children will also develop their map and atlas skills and practise reading and writing coordinates. They will learn about the ancient and new wonders of the world, specifically those of the Americas, and they will research a natural wonder of the Americas and create their own presentations to teach others what they learn.

In Art we will be focusing on ‘South American Art’ children will make clay monkeys, make picture puzzles using symbols, make dream catchers, draw an important person, create a collage and make traditional drums to create quality artwork that shows progression in skills. The children will also have the opportunity to explore the work of South American artists Frida Khalo, Joaquin Torres Garcia, Leonora Carrington, Diego Rivera, Beatriz Milhazes and Carlos Paez Vilaro.

In PSHE, we are looking into our rights and responsibilities. The aim of rights and responsibilities is to help children achieve their potential and develop into responsible citizens. It teaches children to learn how to respect others, think critically and make informed decisions.
