Spring Term 2024

We have a lot of exciting, new learning planned for the Spring term. Here is a peep inside our curriculum.

This first half term in English, we are going to be creating a mystery story. We will start by creating our characters and the setting. We will then build upon our narrative with a twist for the ending.

In science, our focus is electricity. The children will learn to associate the brightness of a lamp or the volume of a buzzer with the number and voltage of cells used in the circuit. Also, they will learn how to compare and give reasons for variations in how components function, including the brightness of bulbs, the loudness of buzzers and the on/off position of switches. In addition, all children will use recognised symbols when representing a simple circuit in a diagram.

In Design and technology this half term, children will be able to apply their knowledge that they have learnt in Science to create circuits and switches.

In Geography the theme will be 'Enough for Everyone'.  We will think about the needs of a settlement, and the needs of the planet as a whole. We will find out where resources such as power and food come from and look at ways in which natural resources can be conserved. After discussing the idea of a carbon footprint, we will have the chance to consider how our actions impact on others around the world, and to think about the changes we could make to try and ensure that natural resources are shared so there is enough for everyone.

Our PE days are on Tuesday and Friday. On Tuesday you will be doing gymnastics and Friday we will be learning the skills of netball. PE on Friday will be outside so please ensure PE kits appropriate for all weather are in school.
