Welcome to the Summer Term, Kusama!
Class Teachers - Miss Baines (Mon/Tues) and Miss Watson (Wed/Thurs/Fri)
Kusama is a team: a community of incredible and unique personalities who embrace challenges head-on. We always look for ways to practice and apply our skills and take on feedback daily to improve. We always use this growth mindset to try our best and we know that practice makes progress!
Summer Term
We can’t believe we’re in the Summer Term, racing towards the end of Year 3! September seems a long way away when we started Key Stage 2 and we can now work more independently in all areas of our learning with a positive mindset.
Following the Literacy Tree scheme in English, we shall be starting the term by reading Our Tower by Joseph Coalho. Our learning will also be supported through reading The White Fox, Jackie Morris. For our reading comprehension we shall be exploring both poetry and fiction with Flotsam David Weisner and New and Collected Poems for Children, Carol Ann DufSciencefy. Alongside this, we will continue to develop their independent VIPERS skills through non-fiction texts which relate directly to our science and history topics, to further their knowledge and by reading around the curriculum.
In Maths, we shall be moving onto exploring mass and capacity, returning to Fractions and then the value of money. Our maths learning will also consolidate our knowledge of the 2, 5 and 10 times tables, and continuing to explore our 3, 4 and 8 times tables. The children will need to use their ever-growing knowledge of times tables to help them deepen their understanding.
In Humanities, we start the term by comparing a European country with England in Geography. We shall then move onto exploring Ancient Egypt in History.
In Science , the children will be exploring Forces and Magnets followed by finding out about Light.
In DT and Art, we will be exploring Pneumatics and then, alongside the History learning about Ancient Egypt, we’ll be learning about Egyptian Art.
PE lessons will include cricket, rounders, athletics and netball. Lessons will normally take place on Monday and Thursday afternoons.
The class will continue to be learning Spanish and naming fruits and the days of the week and in PSHE , we will be discussing Physical Health and Mental Wellbeing. R.E this term is exploring the question What Difference does being a Muslim make to daily Life? In Music we will be describing and experimenting with pitch and exploring the pentatonic scale.
All in all, it promises to be a great Summer Term in Year 3!
Please read the details below carefully so that you are aware of our school’s expectations.
Uniforms - At Priory, we pride ourselves on our appearance - being smart starts with looking smart! Children are required to wear full uniforms to school at all times. Please inform me or the school office if, for any reason, it is not possible to do this, and it will be taken into consideration. Please ensure all uniforms are labelled with the child’s name, as alternative uniforms cannot be provided should theirs go missing.
PE kits must be brought to school on Monday so that they are ready for the week ahead. PE lessons will be taught every Monday and Thursday. The kit will be kept at school and sent home at the end of each half-term or at your request (but please ensure that they are returned to school on time for these sessions). On PE days, earrings must be removed before the children come into school. We are not allowed to help them remove earrings, and they will be unable to do PE.
Home Learning - On Friday, a piece of home learning will be set on Atom Learning, with spellings on Google Classroom, which should be completed and home learning books returned by Wednesday, please. Keep up with reading at home and TTRS to make the leaderboards in Class and earn some Dojo’s!
If you ever need to chat with us, please call or email the office, and we will return your call/email at the earliest possible time.
