Spring Term
Happy New Year!
We've had a great start to the year, with the class settling well into Key Stage 2 and tackling all areas of their learning with a positive mindset.
Following the Literacy Tree scheme in English, we shall be starting the term by reading Escape from Pompeii by Christina Balit, experiencing life in Roman times. Our learning will also be supported through the books of The Last Garden, Cloud Tea Monkeys and Small in the City. For our reading comprehension we shall be exploring both poetry and fiction, from Mr Penguin, Earth Shattering Events and Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats. Alongside this, we will continue to develop their independent VIPERS skills through non-fiction texts which relate directly to our science and history topics, to further their knowledge and by reading around the curriculum.
In Maths, we shall be expanding our knowledge of multiplication and division and fractions, before moving onto using all four operations, when looking at length and perimeter and mass and capacity. Our maths learning will also consolidate our knowledge of the 2, 5 and 10 times tables, and continuing to explore our 3, 4 and 8 times tables. The children will need to use their ever-growing knowledge of times tables to help them deepen their understanding.
In Humanities, we start the term by learning all about Volcanoes and Earthquakes in Geography. We shall then move onto exploring The Stone Age to Iron Age in History. Our learning will include thinking about inventions and lifestyles and seeing how they have helped shape our lives today.
In Science, the children will be exploring Animals including humans followed by finding out about plants.
In DT, we are starting the year by exploring structures and making our own structure followed by investigating and using mechanical systems.
PE lessons will include dance, volleyball, badminton and netball. Lessons will normally take place on Monday and Thursday afternoons.
The class will continue to be learning Spanish colours and objects in their rucksack and in PSHE , we will be discussing Diverse Britain and being yourself. R.E is looking at the questions What is Philosophy? and What do Muslims believe about God? Music we will be continuing to explore accompanying songs and creating sounds as a response to a stimulus.
All in all, it promises to be a great Spring Term in Year 3!
Please read the details below carefully so that you are aware of our school’s expectations.
Uniforms - At Priory, we pride ourselves on our appearance - being smart starts with looking smart! Children are required to wear full uniforms to school at all times. Please inform me or the school office if, for any reason, it is not possible to do this, and it will be taken into consideration. Please ensure all uniforms are labelled with the child’s name, as alternative uniforms cannot be provided should theirs go missing.
PE kits must be brought to school on Monday so that they are ready for the week ahead. PE lessons will be taught every Monday and Thursday. The kit will be kept at school and sent home at the end of each half-term or at your request (but please ensure that they are returned to school on time for these sessions). On PE days, earrings must be removed before the children come into school. We are not allowed to help them remove earrings, and they will be unable to do PE.
Home Learning - On Friday, a piece of home learning will be set on Google Classroom, which should be completed and home learning books returned by Wednesday, please.
If you ever need to chat with us, please call or email the office, and we will return your call/email at the earliest possible time.
