Kusama is a team: a community of incredible and unique personalities who embrace challenges head-on. We always look for ways to practice and apply our skills and take on feedback daily to improve. We always use this growth mindset to try our best and we know that practice makes progress!
Autumn Term
We've had a great start to the year, with the class settling well into Key Stage 2 and tackling all areas of their learning with a positive mindset.
Following the Literacy Tree scheme in English, we shall be starting the term by reading Leon and the Place Between by Grahame Baker-Smith, experiencing the magic at a circus. Our learning will also be supported through the books of The Tin Forest, The First Drawing and the Seed of Doubt. For our reading comprehension we shall be exploring both poetry and fiction, from The Lost Spells to the BFG. Alongside this, we will continue to develop their independent VIPERS skills through non-fiction texts which relate directly to our science and history topics, to further their knowledge and by reading around the curriculum. In Maths, we shall be securing place value knowledge before moving onto using all four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) to answer more complex questions and problem solving. Our maths learning will also consolidate our knowledge of the 2, 5 and 10 times tables, before moving on to looking at our 3 and 4 times tables. The children will need to use their ever-growing knowledge of times tables to help them deepen their understanding. In humanities, we start the term by learning all about local land use in Geography and will compare our local area to other places in the UK. We shall then move onto exploring Ancient Civilisations and how they fit into history. Our learning will include thinking about their inventions and lifestyles and seeing how they have helped shape our lives today. In Science, the children will be exploring rocks and soils to understand how and where different types of rocks and fossils form. In Art, we are starting the year by exploring Stone Age art and trying to reproduce similar art-work of our own. P.E. will include football, handball, gymnastics and dodgeball. Lessons will normally take place on Monday and Thursday afternoon. The class will also be learning Spanish and in PSHE the focus is on New Starts: working together, being considerate, what to do when things go wrong and being responsible. R.E is focussing on the Rights' of Passage across different faiths and Music will be finding the pulse, with some call and response.
All in all, it promises to be a great start to their Year 3 learning!
Please read the details below carefully so that you are aware of our school’s expectations.
Uniforms - At Priory, we pride ourselves on our appearance - being smart starts with looking smart! Children are required to wear full uniforms to school at all times. Please inform me or the school office if, for any reason, it is not possible to do this, and it will be taken into consideration. Please ensure all uniforms are labelled with the child’s name, as alternative uniforms cannot be provided should theirs go missing.
PE – PE kits must be brought to school on Monday so that they are ready for the week ahead. PE lessons will be taught every Monday and Thursday. The kit will be kept at school and sent home at the end of each half-term or at your request (but please ensure that they are returned to school on time for these sessions). On PE days, earrings must be removed before the children come into school. We are not allowed to help them remove earrings, and they will be unable to do PE.
Home Learning - On Friday, a piece of home learning will be set on Google Classroom, which should be completed and home learning books returned by Wednesday, please.
If you ever need to chat with us, please call or email the office, and we will return your call/email at the earliest possible time.
