Autumn Term 2026

Our topics start with Geography and learning all about settlements and what resources are needed to make them sustainable. We shall then move onto History and understanding Roman Britain and the significant events that happened in this era. We shall also be visiting Colchester Castle to learn more about Boudicca’s Rebellion. 

Following the Literacy Tree scheme in English, we shall be starting the term by reading Tar Beach by Faith Ringgold and turning this into a play script, creating explanation texts about plants based on Varmints by Helen Ward and also reading The Iron Man by classic author Ted Hughes and FaRther by Grahame Baker-Smith for inspiration to create their own narratives. 

In Maths, we shall be securing place value knowledge before moving onto using all four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) to answer more complex questions and problem-solving. There will also be a huge focus on learning all 12 multiplication tables, which helps children develop an understanding of all aspects of mathematics. 

Science will be investigating states of matter to understand what variables can cause some materials can change states.   

In art, we are sketching real-life objects, with an autumnal theme, then moving onto design & technology, where the children will get the chance to create their own flavoured bread based on ingredients available during the Roman era. 

P.E. will include sports such as basketball, tennis and fitness activities to stay healthy. 

We also have Essex Music Services teaching the whole class to play the ukulele till the end of November.
