Warhol Class - Year 6

Warhol Class Spring Term 2026

Teacher: Mrs Lavender-Mitchell

We have a lot of exciting, new learning planned for the Spring term. Here is a peep inside our curriculum.

This first half term in English, we are going to be reading The Last Bear by Hannah Gold with the purpose of exploring characters and figurative language, as well as learning about important environmental issues. The unit will conclude with writing a newspaper report. We will also look at the award winning 2012 Guardian advert ‘Three Little Pigs’, giving the children opportunities to explore journalistic writing by identifying viewpoint and bias. There will be opportunities for embedded grammar work throughout, in particular that of active and passive voice and the role these can play in reported events.

Finally, we will read The Last Wild by Piers Torday, the first instalment of an exciting trilogy. Children will learn and revise many of the key grammar requirements of Y6 and have opportunity to apply them within short and longer written outcomes.

Mathematics in this half-term will cover ratio, algebra and decimals. In the second half-term the class will focus on fractions, decimals and percentages as well as area, perimeter and volume and statistics.

In science, we will be learning about light and how it travels. We will also look at how shadows are made.  During the second half-term our focus is electricity.  The class will learn about circuits and switches.

In History we will learn about the importance of the Industrial Revolution, with a link to Victorian society,

In Geography our topic is Natural Resources and how they are distributed. We will look at renewable and non-renewable resources and discuss sustainability.

RE studies this term will ask the class to consider 2 key questions: What does it mean to be human; is being happy the greatest purpose in life? And, Creation or Science; complementary or conflicting?

Programming in games will be the main focus of computing studies in the first half-term and in the second half-term the class will study spreadsheets.

Music this term will allow the class to explore musical effects and moods.

In Art and Design Technology the children will use the seaside as a stimulus and enhance their drawing and printing skills, as well as learning how to weave.   Electrical systems will be used to link with the class’s science learning to a design an alarm or light

For PE, we will begin with dance and hockey, before moving on to gymnastics and handball. Our PE days are on Tuesdays and Fridays.

In Spanish, the children will learn about the Three Wise Men Day, geographical and man-made features and exploring a city. They will also learn vocabulary relating to physical and character descriptions.

Our PSHE in the first half-term will link to our learning in geography. We will learn about how energy is generated and how we can help our planet. In the second half-term we will link our learning to computing and thinking about how to stay safe online as well as exploring cyber bullying.
